How long has your business been operating?
We only started Core Compliance at the beginning of the year, so are now 6 months old.
Can you describe what your company does and services/products you offer?
Core Compliance offers a range of specialist surveying services, mostly in relation to the Building Safety Act 2022, CDM Regulations 2015, Party Wall etc. Act 1996, Equality Act 2010, as well as other building legislation.
What inspired you to start your business?
The building safety landscape changed drastically after Grenfell Tower tragedy. We decided that we could offer a better service to clients than the industry was used to and assist with the complexities of health and safety within buildings.
What influenced your decision to choose Millfields Trust for your office space?
The Millfields Trust could offer us a high quality office at a reasonable rate. Having viewed many offices across Plymouth, we felt the Genesis Building was the one which felt like a natural fit to be the home of Core Compliance.
How has being part of Millfields Trust supported your business growth?
The Millfields Trust offer us flexible lease terms and a range of offices within their estate, this means we can grow and contract the business as necessary and if required, whilst remaining in the heart of the city.
What is the best business advice you’ve ever received?

What advice would you give new/startup businesses?
Don’t expect instant results, but be patience and persistent and results will follow.
Do you have a personal or company mantra that guides your work?
We believe that customer service and a personal approach is fundamental to how we operate. Dealing with complex statutory requirements can be confusing and stressful to the individuals involved, so being approachable and patience means our clients feel cared for and considered in specialist surveying decision.
What do you enjoy most about being part of Millfields Trust Community?
It is great to be part of a network of businesses. The Millfields Trust are very fair and approachable as a landlord, and arrange various events to support their business community.
What do you love about running a business in Plymouth?
Plymouth is perfectly placed to run a business. Located between Devon and Cornwall, and with strong rail links to the rest of the country, we are able to offer our services to a large geographical area, whilst being located right in the city centre. All our staff member live in Plymouth and nothing beats walking to the sea at lunchtimes.
Are there any upcoming events or initiatives your team is involved in that you’d like to share?
We regularly host presentations to other consultants on a range of building safety topics. These are usually held in the Foulston Suite in Genesis Building or Taylor Suite in HQ, so keep an eye out on our LinkedIn for when these are.
